What is this website?

We are a group of high-school students from UWCSEA Dover with the mission to create a safe space for young people to have their voices and opinions heard. This is our advocacy platform - a place where anyone can submit opinionated pieces for them to be shared with our wider community of readers to encourage activism and the power of 'voice' to make a change.

What's with the name?

We took inspiration from Michelle Obama's farewell speech where she speaks to young people about not being afraid to speak out for what they believe in. Her famous quote from that speech was, "Don't be afraid. Do you hear me, young people? I said don't be afraid. Be focused, be determined, be hopeful, be EMPOWERED!"

Who can submit pieces?

Absolutely anyone! We are looking to create a space for ALL voices and opinions. All you have to do is follow our submissions link and we will handle the rest for you. Speaking out is not as hard as it seems...

What can I submit?

We are open to publishing in any form (written, videos, slam poetry etc.) - just follow the steps on our submissions link on the menu bar above. The link is also located at the bottom of the home page for easy access.

Do I have to submit a piece based on the monthly inspo topic?

Not at all! The monthly inspo is there to give inspiration to people who need something to kickstart their piece. You can also submit pieces in response to other blog posts, or any other independent issue or topic you want to talk about.

Are there any guidelines?

We've tried to reduce the number of guidelines we have as much as possible. Here is the remainder:

1. No use of inappropriate language
2. Use of a person's name must be at the consent of said person
3. Opinion pieces should be SOLUTION based (try to avoid rants...)
4. All opinions are welcome unless said opinion questions someone else's existence

When will my piece get published?

As soon as possible! Once we receive your submission, we will try to edit it as quickly as we can and check that it fits with our guidelines. We will then inform you by email that it is ready, and hit publish.

Who will read my piece?

Anyone with the link to the website. We would love for as many people as possible to read your work, hence helping to fulfil the purpose of this advocacy platform and let your voice be heard. Please, feel free to share the link with whomever you wish.
